We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Conservation Professional to join our team in Astoria, Oregon. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in conducting spawning ground surveys and collecting biological data from selected Oregon coastal streams.
As part of our Spawning Ground Surveyor program, you will work closely with other team members to locate, count, and collect data on naturally spawning salmon populations. Your expertise in fish biology and stream ecology will be essential in helping us manage coastal salmon stocks effectively.
This is a seasonal position, starting September 1st and running through November 30th. You will be based out of Astoria, Oregon, and will work primarily in tributaries of the Lower Columbia River. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to effectively collaborate with colleagues, government agencies, private landowners, and the public.
About the Position:The Environmental Conservation Professional will be responsible for conducting spawning ground surveys, collecting biological data, and maintaining accurate records. This will involve working independently under adverse weather conditions in semi-remote areas. You will frequently be required to operate boats in rivers and conduct stream surveys, making it essential to have a valid driver's license and be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
Your experience and qualifications in fisheries or wildlife science will be highly valued, as will your ability to communicate complex information to stakeholders. About the Benefits:As an employee of the State of Oregon, you will enjoy a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $55,000 per annum, depending on your level of experience.
