Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) is on the lookout for a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Compliance Attorney. CLS is a distinguished legal services organization committed to combating poverty, addressing systemic injustices, and transforming lives through innovative advocacy and outstanding legal representation.
As a new role within CLS, the Legal Compliance Attorney will report directly to the Deputy Director of Legal Practice. This position is crucial in ensuring that CLS's practices and procedures align with the obligations to clients and other compliance mandates. The attorney will be responsible for developing systems and conducting training sessions on compliance-related topics. Additionally, this role will assist CLS advocates in navigating ethical dilemmas and managing potential professional liability concerns.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and address compliance and risk management issues, contributing to the development of best practices and agency policies.
- Review and draft policies and procedures to enhance clarity, operational efficiency, and compliance, while supporting risk management efforts.
- Oversee and manage potential professional liability claims and issues.
- Assist in resolving client grievances effectively.
- Collaborate with CLS Legal Managers and the Ethics Committee to address legal ethics inquiries arising in practice and concerning funding or research opportunities.
- Conduct legal research and provide guidance on significant ethical, contractual, and compliance matters.
- Review contracts and collaborate with the legal management team to draft and assess agreements with consultants, sub-grantees, and researchers.
- Develop and facilitate in-house training sessions on ethics and related subjects.
- Ensure compliance with state and local lobbying regulations and other requirements pertinent to non-profits and legal service organizations.
- Work alongside HR and management teams to ensure that case reviews and evaluations are conducted to minimize risk.
- Identify tools for gathering client feedback and conducting needs assessments.
- Formulate strategies for organizing and updating policies and procedures on shared network drives.
- Assist with compliance and fiscal audits as necessary.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Deputy Director of Legal Practice.
- Must be admitted to the PA Bar and maintain good standing.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant legal practice experience.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong legal research and writing capabilities, with the ability to tailor communication for diverse audiences.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with a talent for presenting information effectively.
- Proficient problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Commitment to the mission of CLS.
- A collaborative team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
This position offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 - $90,000, with the option for full or part-time work. CLS provides a comprehensive benefits package, including fully employer-paid medical coverage, life insurance, short and long-term disability benefits, a 403(b) retirement plan with employer contributions, and a generous leave policy that includes 13 paid holidays and five personal holidays each year.
