Job Opportunity

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Computational Scientist to join our team in the Computational Frameworks department.

As a key member of our team, you will work on developing advanced scientific numerical packages, frameworks, and multiphysics analysis tools for nuclear fuel performance modeling. Your expertise in computational science, scientific computing, and numerical methods will be instrumental in driving our research and development efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead computational multiphysics methods and code development teams, focusing on advanced scientific numerical packages and frameworks.
  • Develop and oversee computational science/math algorithms involving solutions of multiphysics problems, nonlinear solvers, and preconditioning.
  • Organize team research and lead advanced research and development efforts, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations to INL management to ensure program goals and milestones are clearly defined and achieved.
  • Prepare internal and external technical reports, publish research in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in professional society activities.
  • Initiate research efforts by authoring proposals, leading proposal teams, and conducting advanced research and development investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a closely related field, with a minimum of two years of experience.
  • Ph.D. in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a closely related field, with a minimum of four years of experience.
  • Fluency in C++, Python, and the development of advanced mathematical software.
  • Appreciable knowledge of numerical analysis, computational science, scientific computing, and scientific software engineering.
  • Experience programming various finite element discretization techniques, parallel computing, and the development of complex scientific software for the coupled solution of systems of PDEs.
