Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and caring Early Childhood Teacher Assistant to join our team at the Young Mens Christian Association of Rochester. As a key member of our childcare staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and lesson planning.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and parents.
  • Maintain a safe and attractive environment for all children in the program.
  • Assist with snack and meal preparation and distribution.
  • Contribute to cleanliness in the classroom and childcare facility.
  • Be aware of and implement established child care policies and NYS OCFS regulations.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain required certifications.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have at least one year of experience working with children under 13 years of age, preferably in an organized setting.
  • High school diploma or GED and Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred.
  • Bring maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with people to this position.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills are essential.
  • Meet all guidelines and requirements for Assistant Teacher mandated by the Office of Children & Family Services.
  • First Aid Certified or able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
  • Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting.
  • Ability to remain calm, objective, and respectful in potentially stressful situations.
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise daily activities.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all elements and move from program site to branch or site to site.
