Job Summary

The Young Mens Christian Association of Rochester is seeking a highly motivated and caring Early Childhood Teacher Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our childcare staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young children to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and lesson planning, ensuring a well-structured and engaging learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, and children, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and attractive environment for all children, adhering to YMCA standards and regulations.
  • Assist with snack and meal preparation, ensuring healthy and nutritious options for our young learners.
  • Participate in cleanliness and organization efforts in the classroom and childcare facility, promoting a tidy and efficient workspace.
  • Stay informed about emergency procedures, rules, and regulations, ensuring the well-being and safety of children at all times.
  • Implement established child care policies and NYS OCFS regulations, upholding the highest standards of care and education.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions, staying current with best practices and industry developments.
  • Maintain required certifications and qualifications, demonstrating a commitment to professional growth and development.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have at least one year of experience working with children under 13 years of age, preferably in an organized setting.
  • High school diploma or GED and Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred.
  • Bring maturity, responsibility, and a genuine interest in working with people to this role.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Meet all guidelines and requirements for Assistant Teacher mandated by the Office of Children & Family Services.
  • First Aid Certified or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting, such as climbing or aggressive behavior.
  • Ability to remain calm, objective, and respectful in potentially stressful situations, such as a crying upset child or an upset parent.
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise daily activities, social interaction, physical, and emotional needs.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects (food baskets and supplies) up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all elements, including outside in all weather conditions.
