Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Operating Room Registered Nurse will deliver expert surgical nursing care, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with healthcare team members, including physicians, to ensure high-quality patient care.
The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for effective communication with surgical technologists, fellow nurses, surgeons, patients, and their families, as well as other surgical team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in both emergency and elective surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to guarantee optimal patient care.
- Act as a liaison between the surgical team and patients' families.
- Organize necessary supplies for surgical procedures.
- Conduct patient assessments before, during, and after surgery while maintaining a sterile environment.
- Perform safety counts to prevent retained foreign objects and ensure correct site procedures.
- Monitor and maintain the status of patients' vital systems throughout the surgical process.
- Administer medications as per physician directives.
- Engage patients or their designated support persons in discussions regarding their post-operative care and rehabilitation.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's Degree in Nursing or higher.
- Active Registered Nurse license in the practicing state or a valid Compact/Multi-State RN license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- A minimum of one year of experience in Perioperative Nursing is strongly preferred.
