Job Title: Public Information Specialist

At Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, we are seeking a highly skilled Public Information Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our School Communications Service, you will play a vital role in providing customized communications and public relations support to public school districts in our region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans to support district goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with district administrators to understand their communication needs and provide guidance on effective messaging.
  • Utilize public relations skills to create engaging content that reaches diverse stakeholders and reinforces district missions.
  • Evaluate emerging communication tools and make recommendations on incorporating them into district strategies.
  • Maintain high-quality print and digital publication standards, ensuring consistency with branding and style guides.
  • Develop and update client branding and style guides, including content strategy objectives, editorial approach, and messaging.
  • Attend meetings and maintain records of information released.
  • Coordinate media outreach, publicity, and news coverage for district issues and events.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree and three years of professional experience in journalism, writing, public administration, marketing, public relations, or public policy.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of journalism and public relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading in Associated Press style.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, analyze, and summarize complex written documents.
  • Ability to acquire a knowledge of school district operations and complex educational issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines, show initiative, and common sense, bring energy and flexibility in support of a team environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of appropriate media sources for dissemination of information.
  • Broad understanding of traditional and social media platforms, and experience in web content writing and social media content creation.
