Key Responsibilities:
Job Summary

The Food Services Supervisor provides leadership during shifts for Food & Nutrition Services. This role supervises kitchen operations, food production, storeroom activities, and diet staff during off-hours and weekends. The supervisor leads cross-functional teams to meet operational objectives. Responsibilities include monitoring patient meal assembly and delivery, ensuring adherence to Room Service and patient meal standards, and overseeing evening café service while ensuring compliance with cash handling protocols. The supervisor also ensures compliance with Health Department regulations regarding sanitation, food handling, and storage, while maintaining customer service and patient service standards.

The supervisor leads the assigned personnel, plans, establishes, and revises work assignments, interviews, selects, and recommends hiring of staff. This role may also involve resolving employee issues and administering disciplinary actions as necessary.

Facilitating timely preparation and delivery of patient meals is essential. The supervisor oversees patient meal assembly processes to ensure compliance with room service protocols.

Additionally, the supervisor directs kitchen and cafeteria opening and closing activities, coordinates staff assignments to meet patient census and business needs, prepares work schedules, and ensures adequate coverage of positions. Regular inspections of the department for compliance with safety and sanitation protocols are required, along with timely investigation of issues and appropriate communication of resolutions.

The supervisor is responsible for ensuring adherence to food production standards, standardized recipes, and food presentation guidelines. Compliance with Infection Control, HACCP, and Health Department regulations is also a priority.


Monitoring food temperature checks for all menu items served to customers is crucial, as is ensuring proper documentation on temperature log forms.

Additionally, the supervisor monitors temperature checks of food storage refrigeration units in the work area, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.

Supervision of storeroom and receiving functions is required, including monitoring the issuing and ordering of supplies, ensuring proper handling, processing, serving, and storage of food, and documenting compliance with HAACP procedures.

Budget management for expenses, labor, and revenue is a key responsibility, utilizing current management practices for monitoring, controlling, and reporting costs and revenue.

Regular team meetings are conducted, providing training and in-service education. The supervisor trains new staff and retrains current staff as needed.


Quality assurance and quality control audits are prepared to assess compliance with departmental standards, procedures, Infection Control, OSHA, and Health Department regulations.

The supervisor also prepares food and serves customers.
