Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mohs Laboratory Manager to join our team at the University of California. As a key member of our dermatology clinic, you will be responsible for providing administrative and clinical support to our Mohs technicians, faculty, residents, and medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Mohs technicians, ensuring compliance with CLIA laboratory protocol and CAP and JCAHO standards.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new hires and existing staff, ensuring they are equipped to handle the unique methods of the Mohs laboratory frozen tissue process.
  • Manage the laboratory's workload, quality control, and regulatory logs, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Interact with faculty, residents, and clinical staff to resolve issues regarding worklists and other orders.
  • Work independently and contribute to the overall goal of a collaborative team, adhering to all UCLA Health system and university policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Requirements
  • Mohs Technician Certificate or equivalent training.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field and/or combination of education and experience.
  • BLS for health care providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • 1+ year lead Mohs Tissue Technician laboratory experience.
  • Skills to supervise support staff in clinic/center administration and to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of CLIA laboratory protocol, CAP and JCAHO standards, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language through written and oral communication.
  • Ability to recognize the needs of own area of responsibility as well as the laboratory as a whole.
  • Manual dexterity to perform technical duties/tasks.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to travel to and be physically present at various community clinic locations throughout Southern California.
  • Ability to work various days/shifts; days and hours may vary depending on assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active membership to American Society of Mohs Histotechnology and National Society of Histotechnology.
