The Health Unit Coordinator plays a vital role in facilitating the efficient functioning of a patient care unit by performing receptionist and clerical/non-clinical support activities.

This role requires knowledge of age-specific needs of the patient population and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clerical/non-clinical support for patient services under the supervision of nursing management.
  • Assembling patient charts with appropriate forms according to policy.
  • Preparing charts for patients scheduled for the operating room, special studies/therapies, transfer or discharge.
  • Collaborating with all disciplines for STAT priorities, including medications, IVs, labs, scheduling of tests, etc.
  • Disposing patients through appropriate computer systems to promptly process admissions, discharges, deaths and transfers.

The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years equivalent customer service experience and demonstrated excellent computer skills with Microsoft Software packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook and database management.

BLS certification is required, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment is essential.

This role requires excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with the team/work group to accomplish daily team/unit tasks.
