SHIFT:

10pm - 6:30am M-F, 9pm - 5:30am Saturday. Typically, one night a week is 10:30pm - 7am, with two Saturdays off each month and a weekday off, along with Sundays.


COMPENSATION:

$21.17/Hourly
*May include night shift differential

ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The Laboratory Sample Coordinator is responsible for the accessioning, receiving, and preparation of samples for laboratory testing. This role is crucial as it involves processing the majority of samples that enter the department. The Coordinator will maintain an inventory of samples post-testing by scanning them into storage systems and will also be tasked with locating any samples that have not been properly scanned. Cross-training for basic Laboratory Technician or Lab Aide responsibilities may be required. Additional duties may include maintaining supply inventories, record-keeping, cleaning, clerical tasks, and managing supply shipping and receiving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To excel in this position, the individual must effectively perform each essential function. The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions:
+ Accession and prepare samples for laboratory testing.
+ Process standard requisitions accurately according to approved procedures, achieving rates of 72 accessions per hour for standard forms, 150 for heartworm multi-test forms, 165 for fecal multi-test forms, and 90 for 2-D requisitions.
+ Remove specimens from transport bags, enter patient data, label samples, and aliquot as necessary for multiple tests.
+ Sort samples for distribution throughout the laboratory (X-rays, Coggins, cytology, etc.).
+ Scan tubes into storage systems and enter specimen data into databases to ensure accuracy.
+ Accession various specimens including but not limited to urine, whole blood, plasma, feces, and biopsies.
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization within the Specimen Processing department.
+ Ensure that Turn Around Times (TATs) are consistently met.
+ Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality protocols. Restock supplies as necessary.
+ May assist with various post-production duties such as maintaining supply inventories, record-keeping, and shipping and receiving.
+ Engage in administrative tasks, including answering and routing incoming calls and maintaining temperature logs.
+ Collaborate with senior peers on non-complex specimen processing tasks to gain experience.
+ Apply job skills and laboratory policies to complete a variety of tasks.
+ Participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other assigned duties.
+ Uphold ethical standards and accountability to the organization's values and principles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

+ High school diploma or equivalent required; a 2 to 4-year degree in a science-related field is preferred.
+ Typically, 0-1 years of relevant experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
+ Laboratory skills, with relevant experience preferred.
+ Familiarity with medical and laboratory terminology and specimen processing procedures is advantageous.
+ General science knowledge, including hematology/chemistry, is beneficial.
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Positive attitude and a proactive approach.
+ Basic math, interpretive, and analytical skills.
+ Proficient data entry skills (Minimum 6,000 KPH) and personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
