Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Associate to join our team at Quest Diagnostics. As a Laboratory Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory team by preparing and organizing samples for testing, labeling and handling specimens, and assisting with quality control procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and organize samples for testing, including sample racking, aliquoting, and tube preparation.
  • Label, handle, process, transport, and store specimens in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Identify sample problems and assist in resolving them appropriately.
  • Prepare testing equipment and assist with preventive maintenance, notifying technical staff of equipment problems.
  • Assist licensed personnel in pre-analytic and post-analytic testing activities, excluding trainees.
  • Prepare pre-analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed volume measuring devices, submitting documentation for approval.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of reagents or media using established procedures, formulas, stock solutions, and fixed volume measuring devices.
  • Maintain inventory of consumable items, including reagents and supplies, ordering, unpacking, logging, dating, and storing upon receipt, and rotating stock for use.
  • Sort and accession incoming specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), delivering them to designated testing areas.
  • Perform data entry or transcribe data from previously recorded results to the computer for data reduction, preparing it for licensed personnel's review.
  • Tally workload data and prepare reports as requested.
  • Assist in the performance of quality control procedures.
  • Prepare protocols/logs or other appropriate documents.
  • Identify specimen problems and demonstrate the ability to resolve or elevate them to licensed personnel or delegated supervisors.
  • Answer phones, transfer calls, or take accurate messages, maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Ensure laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized, complying with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices, and using personal protective equipment as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Some College Courses (Preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of operating non-complex equipment (Required)
  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience (Preferred)
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing 1-10 pounds frequently, 11-25 pounds occasionally, and 26-50 pounds seldom.
  • Performing repetitive tasks with the dominant hand.
  • Sitting and/or standing for long periods.
  • Good eye and hand coordination.
Knowledge and Skills
  • A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
  • An awareness of the factors that influence test results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong typing skills desirable.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with management, co-workers, and clients.
