Job Summary

The U S National Whitewater Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landscape and Grounds Foreman to join our Facilities Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing and working alongside a team of Landscape Crew Leads and Technicians to ensure the completion of scheduled landscape maintenance and assigned work orders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and Coordinate Projects: Plan, coordinate, and supervise projects and crews to ensure timely completion and high-quality results.
  • Team Leadership: Motivate and develop a team of 4-8 members, providing guidance and support to ensure they meet their responsibilities and goals.
  • Work Order Management: Manage and prioritize assigned work orders, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Administrative Support: Work closely with the Facilities Administrator to complete daily and weekly tasks, ensuring that administrative requirements are met.
  • Purchasing and Estimating: Develop and manage purchasing and estimating processes for materials and equipment, ensuring that all purchases are made in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all staff are in compliance with company standards, including work quality standards, safety standards, and operations standards.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Develop and maintain the appearance of hardscapes, including roads, curbs, gutters, parking lots, walkways, stairs, fences, retaining walls, and stormwater structures.
  • Softscape Maintenance: Maintain and improve softscapes, including turf and ornamental plants, gardens, landscape beds, natural areas, and water retention areas.
  • Collaboration and Support: Assist other departments, facility crews, and contractors with maintenance and projects on-site, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Materials Handling and Storage: Manage materials handling and storage, ensuring that all materials are stored safely and efficiently.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of in-house inspections and inventories, ensuring that all records are up-to-date and compliant with company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Experience: 3+ years of supervisory experience in commercial grounds, landscape maintenance, or an equivalent education.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency working with a variety of trade tools, including shovels, picks, rakes, axes, saws, loppers, riding mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Machinery Operation: Proficiency operating and training on fuel-powered machinery, including chainsaws, walk-behind mowers, skid-steer loaders, and riding mowers.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to read and interpret documents, with strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety rules and operation and maintenance instructions.
  • Flexibility: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during Whitewater events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized Experience: Additional experience in a specialized trade, such as turf management, commercial landscape installation, grading, irrigation, pest management, or stormwater management.
Physical Demands
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to safely self-transport over uneven terrain or in a confined space, stand for sustained periods of time, lift and move at least 50+ pounds, reach, bend, and stoop frequently, and work at heights.
  • Weather Conditions: Must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time under varying weather conditions.
