Job Summary

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Human Resources to lead the Academic and Staff Human Resources team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to ensure the effective delivery of human resources services to the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert consultation and direction on school-wide human resources issues, including interpretation and application of University policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement procedures, create organizational structures, train supervisory and operating personnel, and establish controls to ensure timely monitoring and auditing of tasks.
  • Identify methodology and develop strategies to improve human resources services and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior administrators, faculty, and staff to develop and implement human resources initiatives that support the school's mission and goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Minimum eight (8) years of demonstrated management experience, including selection, training, delegation of authority, development of job standards, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing short-term and long-term goals for a large multi-function unit.
  • Demonstrated experience in UC grievance process, factfinders, and arbitration.
  • Experience working in higher education, with faculty and senior administrators, with a preference for experience in academic public health.
  • Demonstrated experience creating/developing databases.
  • Ability to work independently with conflicting demands, time-sensitive deadlines, frequent interruptions, and/or distractions.
  • Demonstrated skill in negotiation, conflict resolution, and maintaining professional demeanor and perspective.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of, and proficiency in using QDB, UCPath, JDXpert, iCIMs, Cognos, OPUS, Academic UC Recruit, Faculty 180, OATS, Interfolio, Tracker I-9, TRS, and other campus personnel and fiscal tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Academic-Year schools pay periods and service quarters, defined start and separation dates, and summer ninths.
  • Ability to research, analyze, compile, and present data in a clear concise manner.
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
