Job Overview:


Shriners Children's is recognized as the leading pediatric center for burn care, orthopaedics, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and various pediatric subspecialties.

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Outreach Medical Support Specialist to assist our Honolulu Outreach Unit as a Department Assistant II.

This role is Full Time, non-exempt, and eligible for benefits. The compensation for this position ranges from $19.70/hour to $24.60/hour, determined by experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities:
The Outreach Department Assistant II plays a vital role in supporting the Outreach Coordinator during clinics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and confirming patient appointments.
  • Arranging consultations and additional medical services outside the hospital.
  • Updating and maintaining patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Organizing travel for outreach team members.
  • Performing various clerical tasks as assigned.
This position requires travel with the Outreach team, demanding focus and attention to detail in data entry, document preparation, and managing extensive telephone communications. Sensitivity and awareness are essential when interacting with patients and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Flexibility in managing multiple tasks is crucial. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with familiarity with medical terminology. Proficiency in standard office equipment is expected. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
  • A valid Hawaii Driver's License.
  • A valid passport and the capability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification recognized by the American Heart Association.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of clerical experience.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite; a background in medical insurance is advantageous.
