Position Overview:
Advocate Aurora Health is in search of a dedicated Oncology Nurse Specialist (RN) to join our esteemed team. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional nursing care to patients within the oncology clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities:
The Oncology Nurse Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Utilizing the nursing process to deliver comprehensive care tailored to the specific needs of oncology patients.
  • Conducting thorough assessments to identify educational needs and providing effective teaching and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Integrating health promotion and preventive care strategies into daily practice.
  • Managing symptoms in accordance with established treatment plans.
  • Evaluating social determinants of health that may affect patient care and coordinating access to necessary resources.
  • Assuming primary responsibility for a caseload of patients, ensuring their needs are met in alignment with treatment protocols.
  • Recognizing and responding to changes in patient conditions promptly.
  • Prioritizing patient care based on individual needs and treatment objectives.
  • Regularly updating care plans and communicating effectively with healthcare providers to ensure cohesive patient management.
  • Administering medications, including chemotherapy and other intravenous therapies, as per established guidelines.
  • Performing necessary procedures, including central venous access device management and blood product transfusions.
  • Providing telephonic consultations and care coordination in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of educational initiatives for staff.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and contributing to shared governance activities.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with the expectation to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
  • Preferred certifications such as OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion).
  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience, particularly in oncology or a related specialty.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Working Conditions:
Candidates should be prepared for potential exposure to hazardous materials and the need for protective equipment. Physical demands include the ability to lift and transfer patients as necessary.
