- Assists Registered Nurses in providing daily patient care, which includes personal hygiene, feeding, mobility assistance, and monitoring of vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration. Accurately documents all patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Engages in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, ensuring proper room setup, patient orientation, and management of personal belongings. Ensures that patient call lights are within reach and responds promptly to requests.
- Conducts purposeful rounding as directed by the Registered Nurse, effectively communicating any observations or concerns regarding the patient’s condition. Documents findings appropriately and assists with patient positioning and transport while adhering to safety protocols.
- Supports the nutritional needs of patients by assisting with diet reviews, meal setup and removal, and ensuring proper positioning during meals. Maintains skin integrity through appropriate repositioning and skin care practices.
- Collects specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum, and performs point-of-care testing as necessary, following established protocols for accurate labeling and identification. May assist with additional tasks as permitted by state regulations.
- Adheres to infection control policies and procedures, demonstrating proper hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile techniques. Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials and appropriate attire when interacting with isolated patients.
- Coordinates necessary tests and treatments with various departments, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of services offered to facilitate scheduling. Utilizes the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for ordering supplies and processing patient charges.
- Facilitates effective communication to support patient care, managing multi-line phone systems and hospital information systems. Screens incoming calls and monitors office equipment, arranging repairs as needed.
- Prepares essential documentation for admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring medical records are complete and accurate. Verifies patient demographic information and registration details.
- Promotes positive customer relations and contributes to a collaborative work environment by responding courteously to requests and fostering communication among the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Assesses and interprets patient data to meet individual needs.
- Must hold a Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- No prior experience necessary.
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program with expected completion in six months or more.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to prioritize tasks.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to changing workloads.
- Attention to detail is crucial.
- Commitment to maintaining annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, twist, and reach during shifts.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with a force of 30 lbs. and perform sliding transfers with assistance.
- Exposure to various hazards including mechanical, electrical, and biological; protective clothing is required.
- Operates necessary equipment to fulfill job responsibilities.
