Job Description

Job Summary:

The Fort Madison Community School District is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Wrestling Coach to lead our middle school wrestling program. As a key member of our athletic department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive coaching plan that promotes student-athlete success, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Coaching Plan: Create a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team instruction.
  • Coach and Instruct Players: Teach players the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of wrestling.
  • Follow District Regulations: Ensure compliance with state, regional, and district regulations governing athletic activities.
  • Establish Student Behavior Standards: Develop and maintain written standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Assign Duties to Assistant Coaches: Assign duties to assistant coaches under your jurisdiction, including out-of-season responsibilities.
  • Monitor Academic Performance: Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
  • Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Confer with parents/guardians regarding the athletic performance of their children.
  • Submit Rosters and Reports: Submit athlete rosters and reports to the Activities Director as required.
  • Model Sportsmanlike Behavior: Demonstrate sportsmanlike behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintain Equipment and Supplies: Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional development activities to improve coaching skills.

Additional Essential Functions:

  • Attend Practices and Games: Attend practices, games, and other functions on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain Reports and Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date reports and records as required.
  • Develop Harmonious Working Relationships: Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other staff members.

Requirements:

  • Valid Coaching Endorsement: Possess a valid IA Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Coaching and Leadership Experience: Possess coaching and/or leadership experience in a similar setting.
