Director of Operations Job Description

Surf Search is partnering with a rapidly growing medtech company in Los Angeles to fill a critical role on their operations team. They are seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead and optimize the company's operational strategy as they scale.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute operational strategies that align with company growth goals and ensure streamlined operations for scaling.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, implementing best practices to optimize workflows, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the operational budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation, cost efficiency, and alignment with financial targets.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success and drive data-informed performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, product, regulatory, commercial) to align operational goals with broader company objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and manage operational risks, particularly in regulated environments like medical devices.
  • Leverage technology and AI-driven solutions to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and service delivery.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Startup experience is required.
  • Proven track record in driving operational excellence, process optimization, and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in using KPIs and performance metrics to guide decision-making.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry regulations and compliance, particularly within the medical device, healthtech, or biotech sectors.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience in healthtech, biotech, medical devices, or AI-driven companies is preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing operational plans in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to work onsite 4 days a week.
