Position Overview

The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a passionate and skilled individual for the role of Educational Development Coach. This position is primarily aimed at enhancing student performance through informed decision-making, evidence-based methodologies, and integrated professional development for educators, particularly in early childhood education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct assistance to educational institutions through practical lesson demonstrations and coaching, employing effective, research-supported teaching methods.
  • Implement the Teacher Coaching Cycle to foster teacher growth and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to identify priorities and support the creation and execution of initiatives that cater to the varied educational requirements of students.
  • Assist educators in utilizing data to guide instructional choices.
  • Design and conduct professional development training sessions for staff in partnership with school teams.
  • Execute and uphold the objectives outlined in school-specific action plans.
  • Work closely with the Coordinator to ensure alignment of school action plans with district strategies.
  • Engage actively in BDDEC networks and all literacy and numeracy initiatives.
  • Support schools in crafting tailored plans to address student needs.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the mandated curriculum.
  • Exhibit cultural competence and an understanding of diverse educational contexts.
  • Possess a coachable attitude, a growth mindset, and a willingness to learn.
  • Be prepared to undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary planning is advantageous.
  • Show a commitment to participating in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Education degree and be eligible for a teaching certificate. Specialized training and experience in the responsibilities outlined above are essential. Postgraduate education, leadership training, and facilitation experience are considered significant assets. Preference will be given to candidates with proven leadership capabilities, strong initiative, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a history of effective classroom engagement. A high standard of professionalism and the ability to collaborate effectively with educational staff are crucial.
