The Role
We are seeking a skilled Valuation and Portfolio Analytics Analyst to enhance our valuation team. This team plays a crucial role in preparing Audit Ready valuations for the entire a16z portfolio, encompassing all sectors including Crypto, American Dynamism, and Bio + Health.
The team collaborates closely with Fund Finance and external auditors to ensure the timely release of quarterly and annual financial statements. The selected candidate will report directly to the Valuation Manager and will work in tandem with internal finance teams and external valuation service providers to guarantee precise reporting of portfolio company valuations and ownership percentages for Limited Partner reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain internal ownership records and valuation models.
- Collaborate with internal teams to prepare portfolio company valuations, which includes gathering financials, financing documents, capitalization tables, and projections as necessary.
- Interface with external valuation service providers to ensure prompt turnaround of valuation models and updates to capitalization tables for real-time reporting.
- Assist in preparing valuation models on an ad hoc basis to support legal reporting requirements and ensure compliance with the firm's valuation policy.
- Help develop automated valuation reporting processes to support both internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide support for investor relations regarding portfolio company valuation inquiries.
- Actively assist the team during the annual external audit process.
- Support internal teams with special projects as required.
- Stay informed about industry changes relevant to valuation and the a16z portfolios.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, or accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public accounting (audit-advisory/transaction/valuation services) or related experience at a private equity or venture capital firm with exposure to portfolio valuation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Basic understanding of capitalization tables and equity structures.
- Familiarity with ASC Topic 820 (Fair Value Standard) is a plus.
- Understanding of partnership accounting is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $121,000 and $141,000, with actual starting pay varying based on experience, skills, and scope. This position is eligible for participation in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs, as well as benefits including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
