Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Supervisory General Engineer to join our team at Naval Sea Systems Command. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement long-range plans for material programs, including evaluating and redefining program objectives.
  • Make decisions that impact other programs within the organization, including developing and implementing procedures to ensure effective management and control of assigned programs.
  • Represent Naval Sea Systems Command in discussions and conferences with other government and private activities.
  • Advise personnel on matters concerning the relationship of material programs to other SUBMEPP programs.
  • Plan long-range submarine material requirements, including high-cost and long-lead-time materials for one or more classes of submarines.
  • Develop information necessary to determine long-range plans for overhauls programs, recommend functional changes, and evaluate and redefine programs and objectives.
  • Make decisions concerning the division and participate in making decisions that affect the Material Programs Division, Maintenance Instruction and Material Programs Department of SUBMEPP.
  • Plan and assign work to subordinates, review work in progress and finished products to ensure technical specifications and procurement specifications contain adequate information.
  • Evaluate employee performance, recommend incentives, and counsel employees on administrative matters.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, NH-02 (GS-11 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer resolving engineering issues to ensure compliance with project requirements or specifications for the design, maintenance, repair, modernization, overhaul, or construction of naval submarines.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management:

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • OR Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
