Position Overview

The underwriting division is seeking a dedicated professional to embody the core values of WCF Insurance as the Head of Commercial Underwriting. This leadership role will report directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer of Middle Market Underwriting and is a full-time, exempt position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Foster and enhance relationships with agencies to drive company growth, profitability, and strategic goals.
  • Oversee an underwriting territory to ensure premium growth, retention, and overall profitability.
  • Provide expert business insights to management, underwriting teams, and other departments.
  • Supervise the technical aspects of underwriting within the business unit.
  • Mentor underwriters and support staff to meet organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with product managers, actuaries, and other stakeholders to analyze book performance, implement necessary adjustments, and support product and state performance.
  • Assist in optimizing sales and underwriting processes to align with the expectations of Middle Market clients.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with various departments.
  • Travel to designated regions to engage with underwriters and agencies to promote production growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related discipline; CPCU or CIC designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of multi-state and multi-line underwriting experience.
  • At least two years of experience in a managerial role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance company operations, marketing strategies, coverage options, financial principles, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with NCCI and independent bureau manuals, rules, regulations, and classifications.
  • Knowledge of ISO rate, rule, and forms manuals.
  • Established positive relationships within the producer community.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and technical abilities; operates with a sense of urgency.
