Job Title: Accountant

At the YMCA, we are committed to strengthening our communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team and contribute to our mission.

Job Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere, performing accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of general ledger and accounting functions, including GAAP and internal controls.

Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, review and prepare journal entries, and maintain recurring journal entries.
  • Post daily activity from operational systems to the general ledger.
  • Record and reconcile payroll transactions.
  • Support Accounts Payable and others as a backup to their daily functions.
  • Serve as liaison for day-to-day banking activities.
  • Assist VP of Finance with month-end and year-end closings, including preparing audit work papers.
  • Perform and assist in various accounting, financial analysis, and budget projects.
  • Work with department personnel to understand accounting processes and procedures.
  • Address challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • Perform all internal and external interactions with a high level of customer service.
Requirements
  • 2-year degree in accounting with 5 years of related experience or 4-year degree in accounting with 1-2 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions, including GAAP and internal controls.
  • Comfortable with computerized accounting systems.
  • Prior experience with non-profit accounting a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to work with confidential matters.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
