Key Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapy Intern plays a crucial role in assisting respiratory care services aimed at treating patients with respiratory disorders under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. Responsibilities include:

  • Timely delivery of various oxygen devices.
  • Conducting daily hospital-wide rounds to monitor and support patients utilizing respiratory support equipment.
  • Assisting respiratory therapists, nursing staff, and physicians with their equipment and supply requirements.
  • Participating in the department's communication center, managing information, and performing data entry for billing and quality assurance.
  • Contributing as a member of the hospital's emergency response team, performing CPR as necessary.
  • Conducting 12 Lead EKGs as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) along with three years of experience in a direct patient care setting, or have completed three years of a bachelor's program in respiratory care. Key qualifications include:

  • Ability to learn and perform CPR.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse individuals.
  • Independent problem-solving skills to address unpredictable situations.
  • Commitment to patient service and teamwork.
  • Adherence to safety protocols to mitigate exposure to infectious agents and hazardous materials.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for equipment handling.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.

Employment Status

This position is classified as nonexempt.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this role is $30.86.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a total of 72 hours per pay period, featuring rotating day and night shifts, including every third weekend.
