Job Summary

As an Electrical Maintenance Specialist for the Operations and Maintenance department at Purdue University, you will be responsible for performing electrical construction and maintenance on all university secondary electrical systems, lighting systems, control circuits, ETS phones, and transformers. Your duties will include:

  • Performing electrical construction and maintenance on all university secondary electrical systems, lighting systems, control circuits, ETS phones, and transformers.
  • Responding to service calls, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Performing preventive maintenance as dictated by schedules.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance on generators, PLCs, boulevard lights, beacon/windsock, and heating/cooling doors.
  • Renovating and modifying existing electrical systems.
  • Referencing blueprints, working with the engineering department, and serving as an interim to crew chief during the crew chief's absence.
  • Overtime will be required in this position.
  • Required to carry a pager.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in electrical construction, electrical maintenance, electrical repair, or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Continued education in the electrical field as directed.
Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • The ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work in adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces, and working from heights.
  • The ability to lift and carry 50-80 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Skills and experience working with secondary electrical systems, lighting systems, and conduit.
  • Skills and experience working with transformers.
  • The ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with word processors, spreadsheets, and SAP.
  • Experience with control circuits, generators, and PLCs.
