Position Title: Laboratory Support Role at Western Nevada College
Overview:
This part-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to the biology department at Western Nevada College. The recruitment process is ongoing to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future openings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the inventory of lab materials for designated courses by collaborating with faculty and placing orders as needed through the Liberal Arts Administrative Assistant.
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and appropriate disposal of materials and biohazardous waste within the laboratory environment.
- Prepare microbiological media for courses BIOL 251 and BIOL 190 as required, and manage microbiology cultures, guaranteeing that fresh cultures are ready for each lab session in partnership with the instructor.
- Set up the laboratory for each instructional session, organizing and distributing necessary equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.
- Execute additional tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related discipline.
- Capability to operate independently with minimal oversight.
- Strong communication skills with faculty and staff members.
Compensation: $17.20 per hour
Employment Status: Exempt
Full-Time Equivalent: 48.8%

Newly appointed faculty members must ensure that their official transcripts are submitted by the degree-granting institutions to the Human Resources Office at Western Nevada College within 30 calendar days from the start date of employment. Academic qualifications must be from regionally accredited institutions. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of necessary background checks, including criminal history, credit history, and other verifications conducted by the Human Resources office.
