Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our team at Duke Triangle Heart Associates in Durham, NC. This position will work in tandem with attending physicians, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies, and provide direct patient care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in patient records; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record normal and abnormal data for review by physicians.
  • Order laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patients.
  • Carry out therapeutic procedures as necessary; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physicians, and maintain records of each patient's progress.
  • May make work assignments for assigned nursing and technical personnel; review the work of other staff; train new personnel.
  • Participate in teaching physician assistant students in techniques and procedures unique to cardiology.
Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of cardiology APP experience.
Work Environment

Primary out-patient clinic hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of patients. There will also be possible hospital coverage at Duke Regional Hospital seven shifts per month.
