Job Title: Academic Advisor

Central Piedmont Community College is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Academic Advisor to join our team. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting students in achieving their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide holistic academic advising to students, including assessment of academic, personal, and career goals.
  • Assist students in developing a comprehensive academic plan, including course selection and program of study.
  • Utilize case management approach to track student progress and communicate with students, faculty, and staff to ensure student learning and success.
  • Provide success coaching to explore student strengths, identify challenges, and create strategies for success.
  • Perform Standards of Progress (SOP) interventions to keep students on their academic track.
  • Review student transcripts to determine course selection within program of study.
  • Facilitate new student groups to identify programs of study, build guided pathway plans, and initiate student advisor assignments.
  • Educate students about curricular requirements, academic standards, and academic milestones related to an intended or chosen academic program.
  • Collaborate with college navigators to maintain a caseload of advisees for outreach communication and academic program support.
  • Provide coaching and assistance for students to assess their degree progress through to graduation.
  • Refer students to campus resources, programs, and support systems that promote academic success, career development, experiential learning, and engagement in a chosen career field.
  • Ensure student compliance with academic policies and procedures.
  • Utilize technology that supports best practices in case management advising strategy.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure student success in their chosen academic pathway.
  • Participate in outreach activities, such as speaking to classes, presenting in departments, and supporting Student Affairs activities.
  • Participate in comprehensive professional advisor development training.
  • Participate in college and departmental evaluations as part of the annual review process.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Student Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or related area, and one year of student advising experience at the college level, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Student Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or related area.
