Mental Health Therapist Job Description

The Bethel School District #52 is seeking a qualified Mental Health Therapist to join our team. As a Mental Health Therapist, you will provide mental health treatment to K-12 students and their families, working in collaboration with the nurse practitioner and our mental health team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and family therapy counseling
  • Maintain the ability to pre-teach/teach skills and strategies to youth through prevention, education, and outreach as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention and response, including suicide screening, assessment, and safety planning
  • Coordinate behavioral health consultation and care coordination with nurse practitioner
  • Meet data and metrics required for grants, as appropriate
  • Provide case management, resource and referral, and advocacy services
  • Participate in meetings, committees, trainings, workgroups and conferences, as appropriate
  • Complete charting in a timely manner
  • Apply mental health insurance billing systems and regulations
  • Conduct groups and/or skill building classes, as indicated
  • Offer support and assistance, as needed, in crisis situations in schools

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in mental health field
  • Clinical experience with children, youth, and families
  • Ability to work calmly in stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students, parents, staff, and administrators
  • Ability to apply FERPA and HIPAA confidentiality laws
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Maintain professional liability insurance
  • Utilize evidence-based, strengths-based, culturally appropriate approach
  • Language(s) required: English, bilingual preferred
  • Meet all standards and expectations of professional licensure board

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual candidates and candidates experienced in working with bilingual students and families will receive preferential consideration
