Job Summary

Nordson is seeking a skilled Tool Room Grinder to join our team. As a Tool Room Grinder, you will be responsible for operating a selection of manual tool and cutter grinding equipment for various machining applications. This is a skilled role that requires a high level of attention to detail to ensure quality production and reliability in attendance to meet our customers' expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe and quality production.
  • Set up and run tool and cutter grinders, including surface grinders, Pratt & Whitney R-6, Cincinnati Monoset, and other specialized equipment.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of grinding wheel grades, shapes, and styles.
  • Make basic formed grinding wheels using radius and angle diamond wheel dressers and crush form wheel dressers.
  • Produce step drills, step reamers, and flat form tools.
  • Operate multiple fixtures and attachments associated with tool grinding and sharpening.
  • Sharpen complex geometry cutting tools, including drills, taps, reamers, step-drills, circular, and dovetail form tools.
  • Perform routine machinery maintenance and run visual tests on broken or worn parts.
  • Interpret blueprints and title block GD&T.
  • Use instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, optical comparators, and other hand tools related to the occupation.
  • Communicate with other departments regarding machining group status and updates.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Lead cross-training and new hire training activities.
Requirements
  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree.
  • 3-4 years of experience in a tool making environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education.
  • Recognized apprenticeship may be required.

  • Ability to work independently and with high attention to detail.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • The employee must consistently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is consistently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
