The Nurse Educator is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive orientation and training programs focused on regulatory issues and staff development in long-term care.

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Educator to join our team. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing a Corporate-approved orientation program for all employees, emphasizing regulatory issues surrounding long-term care and our organization's values and mission.
- Conducting General Orientation using Corporate guidelines, incorporating relevant OSHA and Federal and State regulations into the program.
- Teaching staff and residents about emergency preparedness, fire safety, security, injury prevention, and Alzheimer's care.
- Coordinating and monitoring orientation activities throughout the program.
- Providing input into the evaluation of orientees and recommending release from or extension of orientation based on their learning needs.
- Assisting with mentor programs and promoting a culture of staff development by being open and encouraging about the work environment.
- Developing lesson plans and conducting in-service programs, including mandatory in-services, new product introductions, and technology updates.
- Instructing staff on basic computer skills related to their job duties and how to access and use online education programs.
- Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to promote teamwork and quality care issues.
- Providing input into the appraisal process of staff, particularly during orientation.
- Acting as a resource person for managers relative to departmental orientation, in-service, and staff development needs.
- Conducting state-approved Nurse Assistant Training Programs or CMT programs, following state regulations.
- Developing and implementing an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control infections in our facility.
- Establishing facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases.
- Overseeing the facility's antibiotic stewardship program.
- Leading the Infection and Prevention Control Committee and developing action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
- Implementing an annual infection control risk assessment process and participating in the facility's annual assessment review process.
- Ensuring public health is notified of reportable diseases and collaborating with other departments in fulfilling requirements related to occupational health and safety.
- Maintaining documentation of infection prevention and control program activities.
We require the following qualifications and skills:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- BSN or related baccalaureate preparation in education preferred
- Current RN license in Missouri and Illinois
- CPR/AED certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment
- Certified as a CPR instructor highly desirable
- Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education
- Minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience required
- Educational and supervisory/management experience preferred
- Previous experience in long-term care required
- Ability to manage time and organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other programs such as EMR
- Possesses integrity, initiative, and loyalty
- Must possess good communication skills and demonstrates ability to teach adults
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Ability to transfer and move residents who vary with ability to assist weighing 200+lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40lbs using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Manual dexterity, coordination, and skillful use of hands when working with residents and equipment
- Ability to perform necessary documentation
- Visual acuity
- Must be able to manage a diversity of activities
- Good organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and mentoring skills
- High degree of ability in using tact, diplomacy, and discretion
- Must be able to concentrate with frequent interruptions and multiple distractions
- A preference for understanding and responding to the physical and psychosocial needs of the geriatric population required
Based on market research and industry standards, we estimate the salary for this role to be between $83,000 and $110,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
