Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Specialist to serve as a District School Nurse in the Hazelwood School District. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive health care services to students, staff, and volunteers, promoting healthy learning environments, and collaborating with community groups to achieve district goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess student/staff conditions in the event of illness or injury, following established nursing procedures, and provide care or refer to appropriate medical personnel as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medication to students according to board policy and monitor for side effects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of medicines received from parents and dispensed to students, adhering to applicable laws and established nursing practices.
  • Review students' immunization records for compliance with state law and refer for follow-up when necessary.
  • Conduct basic health screenings for students (hearing, vision, dental, etc.) and document any issues, referring for further evaluation as required.
  • Maintain documentation on cumulative health records and prepare annual reports for the state.
  • Monitor the school environment continuously for safety risks to students and staff.
  • Provide consultation with students, staff, and community members on injuries and current health issues.
  • Identify student health care needs and develop specialized care programs where necessary.
  • Offer educational resources to students and staff regarding growth and development, dental hygiene, asthma conditions, first aid safety, and other relevant topics within the health curriculum and classroom visitations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Two years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, healthcare policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community groups.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to instructions, deal with problems involving several concrete variables, and perform mathematical operations at an intermediate level.

Estimated Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The Hazelwood School District offers a competitive compensation package, including benefits and opportunities for professional growth.
