Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The Hampton VA Medical Center is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a wide range of functional studies of organs and systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with static and dynamic imaging procedures, radionuclide injection, and specialized equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities- Perform analysis and storage of patient study data related to procedures and protocols.
- Assist in cross-training new technologists and interns in gamma camera systems, computer systems, and radionuclide procedures.
- Ensure quality control during all phases of radionuclide imaging.
- Troubleshoot clinical and instrumentation problems.
- Update technical procedures manuals.
- Perform in vivo and in vitro studies using laboratory manipulations.
- Use centrifuges, pipettes, and computer programs to examine, calculate, and analyze testing results.
- Develop new protocols for imaging procedures.
- Analyze instances of increased radiation exposure levels and recommend measures to reduce.
- Certification in nuclear medicine technology by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (N).
- Completion of a NMTCB-recognized nuclear medicine technology program or a nuclear medicine technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT).
- At least 4 years of nuclear medicine experience.
The physical demands of the work include heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time.
