Engineering Process Specialist

Summary:

The Engineering Process Specialist is essential in the creation of advanced components and systems for semiconductor diode lasers, fiber optic coupled devices, and fiber lasers. This role involves spearheading continuous improvement initiatives, aiding in new product development, and working closely with diverse teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate root cause analysis, enhance yield, and reduce costs.
  • Offer technical assistance to client-facing teams for problem resolution and business expansion.
  • Oversee process development and improvement projects from start to finish.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and integrate new methodologies into production.
  • Support the transition of new products from prototype stages to mass production utilizing DFSS and DFM methodologies.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives using various analytical methods and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Assist in the manufacturing of released processes and products, including the creation of BOMs, documentation of work instructions, and staff training.
  • Assess, acquire, and validate new manufacturing equipment and tools.
  • Manage the daily activities of engineering technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Physics) or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in laser components, subsystems, fiber optics, and precision optical/electromechanical assemblies.
  • Expertise in optical fibers, laser diodes, optics, and metrology techniques.
  • Practical experience with optical fibers, lasers, and opto-mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership capabilities and proficiency in collaborating within cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and product lifecycle management.
  • ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred.
  • A collaborative team player with a commitment to mentoring and cooperation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in hybrid microelectronic packaging is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as MIL-STD-883 and IPC/J-STD-001.
  • Experience with processes including die attach, wire bonding, optical fiber alignment, and soldering.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range:

  • Engineering Process Specialist I: $80,000 - $90,000
  • Engineering Process Specialist II: $87,000 - $100,000
  • Senior Engineering Process Specialist III: $100,000 - $125,000
