Position Overview
We are seeking a Laboratory Safety Specialist to oversee all facets of safety within laboratory settings. This role is pivotal in fostering a secure laboratory atmosphere and instilling a culture of safety awareness among personnel. Key responsibilities include performing safety assessments, maintaining records, delivering safety training, and ensuring adherence to safety regulations across various campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute safety assessments at multiple institutional campuses and external locations as required.
  • Record assessment findings and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Share assessment outcomes with departmental teams.
  • Update and manage databases related to safety assessments and equipment.
  • Offer safety guidance and training to staff, promoting safe laboratory practices.
  • Design and present safety training initiatives.
  • Examine safety incidents and guarantee compliance with established regulations.
  • Review and refine safety protocols and policies for accuracy and relevance.
  • Be prepared for emergency response as necessary.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant scientific field is essential; advanced degrees are advantageous.
  • At least two years of experience in a research laboratory, with a solid understanding of chemical and biological safety standards.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds and travel between various facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, experience in chemical safety, BSL3 environments, or animal research facilities is preferred.
  • Participation in additional safety training programs is anticipated.
Additional Information
  • Experience in a research laboratory is mandatory.
  • Comprehension of laboratory operations and associated challenges is required.
  • Ability to work in laboratory and animal holding environments.
