Job Summary:

Hampton Roads Transit is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Operator Trainee to join our team. As a Bus Operator Trainee, you will be responsible for operating transit vehicles safely and efficiently, providing excellent customer service, and adhering to transit guidelines and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate transit vehicles on assigned routes, adhering to schedules and safety protocols.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of transit vehicles, identifying and reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Collect fares, oversee the safety of passengers, and maintain a clean and safe environment on the vehicle.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and other stakeholders, using clear and concise language.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; CDL Class B license and/or permit required; ability to acquire a valid Virginia CDL Class B license with air brake and passenger endorsements within 60 days of employment.
  • Two years of public driving experience or five years of related work experience; one year of customer service experience.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and successfully complete Hampton Roads Transit's bus operations training program.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, and to be available for work on short notice.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with multiple demands on a timely basis. Duties may require some overtime. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
