High-Impact Senior Software Engineer for Biomedical Data Science

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at Harvard University's Human BioMolecular Atlas Program (HuBMAP). As a key member of our software development team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of biomedical data science by developing cutting-edge software solutions for our research initiatives.
Job Summary:
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software applications and tools to support the HuBMAP research program. This includes working closely with our UI/UX team to implement complex user interfaces for our Data Portal, following and extending our established testing and quality assurance process to maintain high software quality, participating in technical planning discussions with partners, and leading technical meetings of our team. Additionally, you will contribute to the creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies, act as a technical liaison to internal and external clients, and mentor junior staff.

What We Offer:
Harvard University offers a competitive salary range of $145,000 - $165,000 per year, depending on experience. Requirements:
- Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
- Experience with state-of-the-art software development practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, object-oriented design, packaging, and documentation
- Ability to produce high-quality code in Python, JavaScript, React, and shell scripting languages
- Working knowledge of CSS and React design patterns and libraries
- Working knowledge of automated testing approaches, ranging from granular unit tests to functional tests of entire applications
- Hands-on experience with GitHub or other collaborative version control systems
- Familiarity with search engines (e.g., Lucene/Elasticsearch), workflow languages (e.g., CWL), containerization (e.g., Docker), and data validation languages (regular expressions/JSON schema)
- Experience with data visualization, data portals, or software development in support of academic research
- Motivation for mentoring junior team members, interns, and trainees and collaborating with peers across multiple sites
