Certified Hemodialysis Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified Hemodialysis Technician to join our team at Gundersen Health System. As a key member of our dialysis team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our dialysis services.
Key Responsibilities- Perform vascular access procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Prepare and program dialysis machines, collect and document patient treatment data, and initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments.
- Obtain lab specimens and monitor and report changes in vital signs to the registered nurse.
- Follow RN direction for patient target loss and perform programming of heparin dose as directed.
- Confers with RN/LPN related to patient needs and prepares renal catheters under aseptic technique.
- Continuously observes patient during dialysis and collects patient data and enters it into the renal documentation system.
- Transports patients to and from the dialysis station and obtains and records pre- and post-dialysis weights.
- Practices meticulous infection control precautions, including good hand washing, the use of PPE, and proper use and disposal of sharps.
- Sets up, takes down, and cleans the dialysis machine and selects and sets up the correct dialyzer.
- Sets up simple oxygen equipment under the direction of the RN and travels to Renal Satellite units to cover as needed.
- Checks and maintains the water system pre-treatment and as needed and performs routine system sanitization procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Post High School education in a specialized field: Graduate of Renal Dialysis Technician program.
- 6 months patient care related experience, including clinical experience in a dialysis technician training program or in a Certified Nursing Assistant training program.
- Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) within 18 months of hire date (on-the-job training available).
- Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Exposed to infectious diseases. Subject to hazards. Physical demands of the position include stooping/bending, lifting, and the use of PPE.
