Job Summary:

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Gundersen Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, you will be responsible for organizing medications, preparing labels and bags, and compounding sterile and non-sterile products. You will also participate in medication dispensing and delivery, while maintaining our pharmacy's medication management and infection control procedures, policies, and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and prepare medications for dispensing, including reading medication orders and prescriptions, and calculating quantities.
  • Prepare labels and bags for medications, and compound sterile and non-sterile products as needed.
  • Participate in medication dispensing and delivery, while maintaining our pharmacy's medication management and infection control procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Provide customer service to patients and Gundersen Health System staff, including triaging phone calls and non-clinical medication-related questions.
  • Obtain accurate information from patients, including personal and insurance information, and efficiently enter it into our computer system.
  • Participate in the Transition of Care programs implemented in the Pharmacy.
  • Follow expectations of the Pharmacy Technician Tech-Check-Tech program.
  • Handle controlled substances according to all policies, SOPs, and regulatory statutes.
  • Own inventory control for all inventory locations.
  • Troubleshoot technology-related processes and equipment.
  • Prepare and mix non-sterile preparations for distribution to patients.
  • Aseptically prepare and mix sterile preparations for distribution to patients.
  • Aseptically prepare and mix hazardous medications for distribution to patients.
  • Assist with the training of Pharmacy Technician Trainees and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the department to guarantee sterility with appropriate measures.
  • Adhere to regular and predictable attendance.
  • Interact with and care for patients.
  • Ensure patient safety.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested by pharmacists, support staff, and leadership.

Requirements:

REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency and completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy technician experience

Work Experience:

REQUIRED
3 months pharmacy experience

DESIRED
1 year pharmacy experience

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED
If working in Wisconsin, must be registered with the Wisconsin Dept. of Safety & Professional Services (WIRPhT) and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

If working in Minnesota, must be registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (MNRPhT) and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

If working in Iowa, must be registered with the IOWA Board of Pharmacy (IARPhT) and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 12 months of hire through the Pharmacy Technician Board or National Healthcareer Association
