Pharmacy Technician Role at Thrive Pet Healthcare

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Elgin Veterinary Hospital, a part of Thrive Pet Healthcare. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy, working closely with our Inventory Manager to maintain accurate inventory levels and prevent stock shrinkage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill medication fill requests, both new scripts and refills, with precision and attention to detail.
  • Accurately document communications regarding medication scripts and refills in medical records.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping procedures for the pharmacy area, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Manager to track medications approaching expiration dates and implement effective inventory management strategies.
  • Oversee all pharmacy items prepared for pickup, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in our processes.
  • Implement and run weekly cycle counts on all pharmacy items, maintaining the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Assist with unpacking and restocking weekly orders, verifying invoices and packing slips for accuracy.
  • Maintain digital SDS and coordinate necessary training for team members, ensuring compliance with OSHA guidelines and safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2-year experience as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
  • Proven ability to perform accurate medical math and calculations.
  • Completion of 7 hours of CE training per year, with at least 4 hours focused on pharmacy-related topics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to actively listen, empathize, and train team members effectively.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, with a willingness to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
  • Knowledge of veterinary and medical terminology, with the ability to accurately enter information into patient records.
  • Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate and provide expert customer service.
Reporting Structure:

This role reports directly to the Practice Manager and may take direction from DVMs daily. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work closely with the entire team to implement processes, provide training and support, and ensure compliance with all pharmacy processes.
