Role: Educational Support Specialist

As an Educational Support Specialist, you will assist licensed educators in addressing academic adaptations, self-care, and the social/behavioral needs of students within the classroom, whether on an individual basis or in group settings. This role offers the chance to significantly impact the lives of children in special education, helping them navigate challenges to achieve academic, social, and emotional success. You will work closely with students facing difficulties, serving as a role model and holding them to high standards of character and conduct while fostering relationships that encourage them to strive for excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students while maintaining a conducive classroom environment.
  • Assist educators with instructional tasks, including working with students in small groups or one-on-one.
  • Support students in achieving their individualized education plans (IEP).
  • Modify classroom activities, assignments, and materials to align with educational objectives.
  • Facilitate student transitions between classrooms as necessary.
  • Monitor and document student progress and performance through data collection and record-keeping.
  • Provide tutoring assistance on assigned coursework.
  • Reinforce learning and instructional strategies as directed by the teacher.
  • Support students in activities related to English Language Learning plans.
  • Recognize and address the diverse needs of each student, acknowledging differences in abilities and cognitive levels.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Maintain an engaging and supportive classroom atmosphere.
  • Provide assistance to students in crisis situations.
  • Utilize various teaching methods to enhance learning experiences and support students effectively.

Additional Duties May Include:

  • Administering assessments, homework assignments, and make-up work.
  • Overseeing student drills and practice sessions.
  • Ensuring students comprehend classroom rules and procedures.
  • Offering guidance and emotional support to students.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of 60 semester/90 quarter credits from an accredited institution or possession of an AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or a passing score on the MN ParaPro Test.
  • Experience in assisting with instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Sub Para - Associate Degree or 60 credit hours.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.
