Role Overview:
Thank you for considering a position as a support specialist within our special education framework. Support specialists play a crucial role in delivering both behavioral and academic assistance to students, often serving as the primary point of contact for students throughout their school day.

Responsibilities:
As a support specialist, you will:
  • Collaborate with licensed educators and other staff to provide assistance in academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and daily living skills.
  • Implement assigned tasks that include instructional support and academic assistance.
  • Monitor and encourage students' independence while executing individualized behavior management strategies.
  • Assist with daily living tasks to promote student well-being.
  • Communicate student progress effectively with case managers.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma.
  • A minimum of 60 post-secondary education credits or a passing score on the Para Pro Exam.
  • PCA Certification (or the willingness to obtain it).
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination, which includes:
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to push or pull equipment such as wheelchairs and standers.
  • The ability to reach overhead repetitively.
  • The ability to transfer to and from the floor.
  • The ability to kneel.
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience working with special education students in an educational environment is highly valued.
