Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in accounting, nonprofit financial oversight, or a comparable area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of nonprofit accounting practices, theories, and policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Over five years of experience in accounting or nonprofit financial management.
  • Proven experience in grants accounting for government-funded programs.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Single Audit and other grant audits.
Key Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to address the needs of grantors, grantees, clients, and the organization.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
  • Facilitate daily operations within the Fiscal Department by preparing billing vouchers and invoices for assigned grants.
  • Maintain awareness of funder regulations for grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with budgets and policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of all necessary fiscal reports for grant-funded initiatives, ensuring timely submissions.
  • Conduct budget-to-actual analyses for grant-funded programs, communicating status and variances to program management.
  • Support the Director of Finance in developing grant and contract budgets and amendments.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Help maintain the general ledger and subsidiary accounts, preparing and posting journal entries as needed.
  • Participate in month-end closing and account reconciliation activities.
  • Identify and report any accounting discrepancies to the Director of Finance.
  • Contribute to special projects, including year-end financial book closings.
  • Assist external auditors by providing necessary documentation and information for audits.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Propose updates to accounting processes and procedures as necessary.
  • Support the Director of Finance as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment:

This position operates within a professional office setting, requiring the use of standard office equipment and software, as well as remote videoconferencing tools. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary for this position is based on experience, ranging from $70,000 to $80,000, in addition to generous time off (including personal, sick, and vacation days), holidays, medical/dental/vision benefits, retirement contributions, tuition reimbursement, and eligible moving expenses. Flexible hybrid-remote work options are available.
