Position Overview:

We are in search of a highly qualified and seasoned Senior Structures Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be tasked with delivering comprehensive estimating services from project announcement through contract award and budget formulation. Your estimating responsibilities will encompass bridges (both substructure and superstructure), retaining walls, shoring, cast-in-place structures, precast structures, box culverts, and all heavy civil/highway work associated with structural components.

This role demands exceptional communication and organizational abilities to effectively engage with clients, subcontractors, material suppliers, design firms, utility companies, and all relevant stakeholders to ensure precise and comprehensive structures estimates are developed using HCSS Heavy Bid. Collaboration with the Banicki Estimating Team, Chief Estimator, Senior Estimator, and other operational staff is essential to assemble competitive structures bids promptly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated capability to compile complete structures estimates, including all related heavy civil and highway work, utilizing HCSS Heavy Bid.
  • Expertly prepare structures estimates by calculating statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material pricing, labor costs, and equipment expenses, applying these to the overall project scope.
  • Quickly analyze structural projects through thorough examination of plans, geotechnical reports, participation in pre-bid meetings, and site visits.
  • Strong proficiency in performing detailed quantity takeoffs and calculations using OST, Planswift, Excel, and Bluebeam.
  • Review and analyze historical data (productivity reports, bid tabs, purchase orders, etc.) to create guidelines for structures estimates.
  • Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures within HCSS Heavy Bid.
  • Actively engage in the development of bid package estimate documents.
  • Maintain organized files of working documents to support estimating figures, including up-to-date pricing information from suppliers.
  • Manage subcontractor requests for proposals effectively.
  • Evaluate design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  • Oversee awarded contracts as assigned, which may involve estimating additional work items, change orders, and material procurement.
  • Conduct and lead thorough bid reviews with the Chief Estimator and Management Team prior to bid submission.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of operational experience on structures-related projects, including bridges, retaining walls, and heavy civil/highway work.
  • At least 5 years of estimating experience on structures-related projects.
  • Proficient in using HCSS Heavy Bid, OST, Excel, and Bluebeam for structures estimating.
  • Strong technical knowledge of structural scopes, specifications, heavy civil construction, and civil engineering principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of structures production, crew assembly, equipment allocation, work sequencing, and scheduling.
