Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with the Klamath County Health Department as a Community Nutrition Worker. The successful candidate will provide technical and staff support in the WIC program, providing direct services to clients through nutrition assessments, eligibility determination, certification, education, and counseling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine WIC program eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
  • Obtain anthropometric and biochemical measurements, evaluate and explain results to clients.
  • Review and assess the diet and health histories of clients, identify relevant risk factors, and refer high-risk clients to the WIC Dietician.
  • Develop plans for diet improvement, educate clients on various health and nutrition issues, and make referrals to other community resource agencies.
  • Provide nutrition education to groups of clients, present information on nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and early childhood, as well as various nutrition topics.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and accuracy of electronic records.
  • Assist in monitoring client census in relation to the program's targeted caseload.
  • Conduct ongoing quality assurance in laboratory procedures.
  • Promote breastfeeding as the optimal infant feeding choice, while allowing participant personal choice.
  • Distribute WIC breast pumps according to established guidelines.
  • Complete all WIC training modules within six months of initial employment and new training modules as required.
  • Participate in quarterly time studies.
  • Provide excellent customer service in person and/or on the telephone.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university in Health Education, Home Economics, Nursing, Psychology/Sociology, or Social Work with courses in nutrition education is preferred.
  • Comparable WIC certifier experience, thorough knowledge of current nutrition information, knowledge of parenting skills, childhood growth and development, and maternal health care.
  • Any combination of training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be college-level training in nutrition/dietetics or community-based experience in nutrition/dietetics.
  • Current Driver's License.
