Job Summary

Student Life Mentors play a vital role in the success of the Office of Student Life and the Department of Student Life. They provide essential information, resources, networking opportunities, and extracurricular activities to students in support of the College-wide goals of retention and completion, and student-centric goals of personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep Campus Bulletin Boards Up-to-Date: Ensure all bulletin boards around campus are current and well-maintained.
  • Develop Content for KCC TV: Create engaging slides for KCC TV.
  • Collaborate with ASKCC Marketing and Communications: Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer to develop social media content and student outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain Student Life Events Canvas Course: Assist in keeping the Student Life Events Canvas course up to date.
  • Create SOPs for Office Equipment: Develop standard operating procedures for office equipment.
  • Adhere to FERPA Regulations: Ensure compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Regulations.
  • Enforce KCC Policies and Procedures: Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures.
General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet Guests and Answer Phone Calls: Welcome guests and respond to phone calls and voicemails.
  • Work with the First Year Experience Coordinator and Student Life Coordinator: Collaborate with the First Year Experience Coordinator and Student Life Coordinator to plan weekly tasks.
  • Participate in Ongoing Training: Engage in ongoing training on resources available to students on campus and in the community.
  • Refer Students to Resources: As needed, refer students to other resources on campus.
  • Stay Up-to-Date on Student Life Events: Maintain awareness of the Student Life event schedule.
  • Assist with Student Life, ASKCC, and KCC Campus Events: Support events as needed.
  • Promote Events and Community Service Opportunities: Encourage students to participate in events and community service opportunities.
  • Maintain Office and Event Supplies: Manage inventory of office and event supplies.
  • Perform Basic Clerical Work: Complete basic clerical tasks, primarily on the computer.
  • Maintain Office Cleanliness and Organization: Ensure the office remains clean and organized.
  • Maintain the Game Checkout System: Manage the game checkout system.
  • Attend Student Life Team Meetings and Team Building Activities: Participate in regular team meetings and team building activities.
  • Attend One-on-One Meetings: Engage in one-on-one meetings to assess progress.
  • Assist with Food Pantry Package Pickup: Support food pantry package pickup on designated days.
Qualifications
  • Basic Data Entry Skills: Possess basic data entry skills.
  • Enthusiasm, Organization, and Positive Attitude: Demonstrate enthusiasm, organization, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to Work Independently and in a Team: Effectively work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively with students from various backgrounds, cultures, and academic levels to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Education and Experience
  • Current Student at Klamath Community College: Must be a current student at Klamath Community College.
  • Enrollment and Academic Requirements: Must be enrolled and successfully complete six (6) credits during fall, winter, and spring terms, and maintain a minimum term and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
  • Good Standing with the Office of Student Conduct: Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct.
Other Requirements
  • Completed FAFSA and Eligibility for Federal Work Study: Must have completed the FAFSA for the academic year and been determined eligible for Federal Work Study.
  • Flexible Schedule: Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule as required, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Experience at Klamath Community College: Have already completed at least one term of 6 credits at Klamath Community College.
  • Orientation Program Experience: Experience with orientation programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Microsoft Office and Google Apps Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google apps.
  • Strong Interpersonal and Conflict Management Skills: Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Project Management and Coordination: Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and activities, self-direct, make effective use of resources, and meet established deadlines.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid driver's license.
