Job Summary

The City of Philadelphia seeks a highly skilled and experienced Deputy City Solicitor to join our team in the Major Trials Division. As a key member of our litigation team, you will be responsible for defending the City and its employees in complex tort claims, including premises liability, motor vehicle, and property damage cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 75 Major Jury cases, conducting intensive discovery and investigation, drafting pleadings, and defending depositions.
  • Work with experts, including engineers and medical doctors, to prepare cases for trial, arbitration, or alternative dispute resolution.
  • Represent the City at trial, arbitration, or ADR, presenting evidence and arguing on behalf of the City.
  • Advise and represent the City and its employees in legal matters, including government agencies and court proceedings.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, judges, and other stakeholders, presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Pennsylvania law, particularly the Political Subdivision Tort Claims Act.
  • Experience in tort litigation, including taking and defending depositions, conducting arbitrations, and trying cases.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and analyze complex legal issues.
  • Strong writing, case management, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
