Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Project Lead: Responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of all mechanical engineering employees, including detailers and designers, to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Team Lead and Project Coordinator: Oversees the development of detailed plans, processes, and procedures for department staff to follow, and ensures that all projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
  • Research and Development: Spearheads various research, R&D, and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.
  • Quality Assurance: Conducts various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects.
  • Staffing and Training: Maintains department staffing by recruiting, selecting, and training employees, and ensures that all employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicates and collaborates with other managers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure that all projects are completed successfully.
  • Proposal and Quoting: Assists sales personnel during the quoting process to determine costing and generate proposal drawings.
  • Customer Service: Corresponds with customers to resolve questions or issues related to specifications and/or designs.
  • Compliance and Policy: Monitors and enforces company rules, procedures, and policies, and ensures that all employees comply with these requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Related Field: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills are necessary to manage and develop a team.
  • Experience: 5-8 years of experience in the design and managing custom machine mechanical design is required.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, including mills, lathes, grinders, laser, and plasma torches, is necessary.
  • Project Management Skills: Organizational competencies and project management skills are required to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track.
  • Communication Skills: Strong project coordination and communication skills are necessary to ensure successful project completion.
  • Software Skills: Efficient use of AutoCad and SolidWorks drawing programs is required.
  • Knowledge of Standards: Familiarity with ISO and ANSI standards is preferred.
