Job Summary

This position is located within the Morale, Welfare & Recreation Department at Commander, Navy Installations Command.

Responsibilities
  • Provides exceptional customer service to patrons, including greeting customers, checking identification cards, and registering patrons for facility use, events, and classes.
  • Answers telephone calls, providing information on facility hours, upcoming events, and programs.
  • Completes daily activity reports, handles cash transactions, and verifies funds collected.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing activities to attract and motivate participants.
  • Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of fitness activities based on participant feedback, resources, and program objectives.
  • Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors at assigned programs and reports any issues to management.
  • Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities to be offered.
Instructional Support
  • Monitors participants in indoor and outdoor activities, including intramural sporting events.
  • Conducts instructional classes in assigned recreational areas.
  • Performs basic fitness orientations, identifies and corrects unsafe fitness techniques.
  • Demonstrates procedures and instructs on the use of related equipment.
  • Establishes and reviews event schedules, conducts tours, and sets up facilities prior to events.
Facility and Equipment Maintenance
  • Ensures facilities and sporting fields are open and closed at posted times.
  • Monitors and checks the security of premises.
  • Ensures athletic playing surfaces are properly maintained, safe, and ready for play.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment and facilities, maintains inventory, and performs general janitorial services.
  • Makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when necessary.
Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position.

A qualified candidate should possess knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations, basic arithmetic, cash handling procedures, and basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.

They should also have skills in using Microsoft Office programs and the ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.

Additionally, they should be able to competently and independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations, develop and deliver presentations, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
